Around 18 months ago, I decided to give it another try after reading so many positive reviews of the benefits that it can offer. Second time round my experience was totally different. It may be due to the excellent quality of the instructors at the Wimbledon studio and the great advice they provide, the friendliness of the staff and members, the juice bar serving delicious juices or their special attention to detail with tranquil music and the scent of lemongrass. Whatever it was, I was hooked! Bikram yoga has helped me in so many ways: I no longer have problems with my neck or have to pay for expensive physio; my body is stronger and toned; my posture has improved and I stand taller; I am more focused and calmer and when I practise regularly, I have more energy and feel happier. My eighteen year old daughter has also been practising regularly; it has been amazing for keeping her focused for her exams and on the right path. She now makes healthy choices with her diet and lifestyle because Bikram yoga makes you feel healthy so you are more mindful about what you do with your body. I wish I had continued with Bikram yoga ten years ago but also glad that I gave it a second chance as it has been life changing for me. My mind, body and spirit are stronger and I am still only at the beginning of my real journey.
“Wow ! where do I start? Hot Yoga has transformed so many aspects of my life. I started a year or so ago with a back injury which I hoped to strengthen so that I could continue with my other sports. My back now has become stronger than ever before and my injury has vanished. When I started I had no idea of all the other benefits that Yoga had a waiting for me. I have discovered an ability to remain totally focused during practice, which in turn has helped me to remain calm and more thoughtful in everyday life. I have learned how to connect my mind with my body by gaining control of my thoughts and the calming of my breath even when my heart is pounding during intense postures, this control is a great feeling! “I started Bikram Yoga in April this year with the £35, 20 day trial. At the time there was a lot going on for me, career changes, moving house and life! I felt like I needed some routine and a calm way to release my stress. On arrival, I was welcomed with happy friendly lovely people, Marlene, Sarah and Sharky, who all emanate positive energy and bundles of advice should you need it. After my first class I knew I was hooked. I felt amazing! I couldn’t do a lot of the postures but I soon learnt from all of the teachers that it was all about journey and not the destination.. Once I accepted this, everything fell into place.. The journey so far has been so incredibly rewarding. I am now less hard on myself both in the studio and in general. I have more focus and stillness, a better understanding of myself and my body and I feel euphoric most of the time! Way more than I bargained for! I feel so much more confident and I’ve only been practicing 2 months! All the teachers are approachable, kind, have a sense of humour and so encouraging. I’ve learnt something from all of them. Luka with her calm and gentle words of wisdom, Gwenaelle for her sense of fun and enthusiasm and Dave who helped me lock my knee out. Thank you! I’m sure the triangle pose will be perfected in due course too. Hot yoga has truly had a massive positive impact on my life and I’m so excited about what’s to follow. If you embrace Hot yoga you won’t look back. At its best it can change and support your journey through life physically, mentally and emotionally. One of the things I love about it is that it is everything I need in one practise. It helps me work on the inside and outside of my body helping everything function properly and regulating my metabolism whilst I’m kind of giving myself a massage at the same time as working out! Most importantly it has helped me through the darkest times of my life supporting and nurturing my emotional health and mental well-being as I try to learn to cope with life’s challenges, slow down and be good to myself (one day I’m convinced I will even learn how to meditate properly!) I’ve been studying Yoga for 8 years and love it. Wimbledon is my favourite Hot Yoga studio in London. The teachers are the most consistent in quality. It has a true community atmosphere and is very welcoming and supportive with a team who genuinely care about their yogi’s. A;; types of practitioners are embraced and there is a sense that everyone fits in. Also the yoga space and changing rooms and facilities are really well set up.
I never actually thought what yoga means to me or does to me. I just love it. I started loving it with the first pranayama breath. I didn’t know anything about Bikram yoga till my friend introduced me one day. She never came back after first class but I was hooked by the heat from the first class and I already knew it will be long time friendship.
One of my colleague at work said- oh, you do yoga, yoga gives you wings! I wouldn’t say so. Then the heat knocks you down on a mat you don’t feel having wings at all. But it definitely gives me something that kicks me out of my bed on Sunday morning when everybody is still asleep to come for 8am class. I JUST LOVE IT!!!
